The SRX600 was Yamaha's attempt to repeat the SR500's success with a more modern sporty single, using a four-valve 608 cc engine from the XT600 in a light steel chassis with cast wheels, twin front discs and a rear disc. Praised for its looks, single-cylinder feel and nimble handling, it nonetheless sold poorly against heavier multi-cylinder bikes at similar prices, and was officially sold in the US only in 1986.
